Skellig Michael (Sceilg Mhichíl) off the coast of Country Kerry is a rugged island monastery founded in the 6th century and dedicated to Saint Michael the Archangel. It is part of a remarkable 2,600-mile line of alignment of seven sanctuaries dedicated to St. Michael, stretching from Ireland to Israel. Known as the “Sword of St. Michael,” Skellig is often described as its western tip. Along this line are: * Skellig Michael (Ireland) * Michael's Mount (Cornwall, UK).
