Coronavirus hysteria gives birth to new “squirting rite” with hand sanitizer

A priest wrote:

“My DEACON is demanding that he squirt ’Purell’ in my hands during the fraction rite...what is the correct liturgical time to squirt? He squirts the extraordinary ministers hands as they approach for communion... they are very grateful for the squirting rite...”

The priest can wash his hands with hot soap and water prior to Mass, as rubrics direct, and again as already provided for in the ritual with water when preparing the gifts at the altar.

The “canonical fingers”, in which thumb and forefinger of the priest
are held together after the consecration, provide both for reverent handling of the sacred Host and cleanliness for the people in receiving holy Communion.
