A little trip with the bicycle
After some assistance with tire inflation Saturday afternoon from Giorgio at the bike shop in Isernia I took a ride up the mountain to Miranda. About 2 km out from Isernia the ascent began and did not stop until almost 45 minutes later when I reached the summit on which Miranda is perched, the close-set houses of the town cascading down below the castle on one side of an escarpment.
The ride made the day nearly perfect after a home-cooked pranzo (lunch) of bracciale di maiale, broccoli rabe, potatoes and Chianti Classico Riserva prepared by my friend Father Tiso.
After a stop at the chapel of Santa Maria della Grazie near Fornelli for holy Mass with Father I drove across the boot west and north to Latina where I had a late dinner of pizza and arancini with the Ghigliero family who are friends from the time of their assignment as a foreign exchange military family in Norfolk, Virginia. I had the privilege of helping them to celebrate first communion for their twin daughters.
