Published on the 'Messa in Latino' blog and mainly about his new book, the interview was abruptly taken down by Google along with the blog. The full interview is published here in English.
On July 11 Google’s Blogger.com platform removed — without giving any warning or specific reason — the traditional Italian Catholic blog Messa in Latino after Blogger.com had received a complaint about the site.
The Messa in Latino blog, the most widely read traditional site of its kind in Italy, was taken down shortly after posting an interview with Father Nicola Bux, an expert liturgist and former consulter to the then-Congregations for the Doctrine of the Faith, Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, and the Causes of Saints.
The bulk of the interview in Messa in Latino revolved around Father Bux’s new book, co-authored with the Italian author Severino Gaeta, La Liturgia non e uno spettacolo (“The Liturgy Is Not a Show”).
Published so far only in digital form in Italian by publisher Fede & Cultura, the book contains comprehensive details of the Vatican’s 2020 survey of bishops worldwide that Pope Francis had said persuaded him “of the need to intervene” and release Traditionis Custodes, his motu proprio restricting the traditional Roman rite.
The Pope’s decree was published on this day, July 16, four years ago.
Crucial details of that survey, first revealed by the journalist Diane Montagna in a bombshell report on July 1, convincingly showed that Francis’ justification for suppressing the ancient form of the Roman rite were contrary to the Vatican’s overall assessment of the survey.
The majority of bishops, the CDF report said, had responded to the survey by saying that making legislative changes to Pope Benedict’s 2007 apostolic letter liberalizing the traditional Roman Rite, Summorum Pontificum, “would do more harm than good.”
The Vatican has since revealed that other “confidential reports” went into the Pope’s decision, but it has yet to reveal them or provide any indication as to how they differed from the CDF survey.
In his interview with Messa in Latino, whose Italian text is now accessible on Fede e Cultura’s website, Father Bux shares his reaction to the revelations of the survey results, discusses his appeal, made in his book, to Pope Leo XIV to lift restrictions on the TLM, and shares his ideas on how liturgical peace can be restored to the Church.
