Issue: With mounting pressure placed on lawmakers from special interest groups and senior government officials, a combined vote of the House Judiciary and Health & Government Operations Committees passed out legislation this evening that would drastically alter the definition of marriage in our state.
The vote was only achieved through a legislative maneuver that assigned the bill to two committees - to get around the fact that they did not have the votes in the Judiciary Committee alone, where all other bills relating to marriage have previously been considered.
Thanks to the groundswell of voices against this measure from all corners of the state, we fully expect that there are still insufficient votes in the House of Delegates to pass the bill, and commend those lawmakers who continue to stand strong in their conviction that marriage must not be redefined in Maryland.
Action: Email your delegates IMMEDIATELY and urge them to vote against the same-sex marriage bill. The delegates are keeping track of how their constituents want them to vote. Your voice MATTERS!
