The Brew: Zombie Republicans Can’t Handle the Hate We Face

such people don’t fear the violence of the Left, the chaos of open borders, the rampant crime in our cities, or the legal persecution of Christians. They feel, for both good and bad reasons, perfectly safe. Their reactions to Charlie Kirk’s murder revealed that there’s just one thing they dread: true patriots taking over the Republican Party and genuine Christians taking over the Church.”

Remember when politicians like Mitt Romney, John McCain, and Paul Ryan assured us that bipartisan cooperation was possible if Republicans would just walk away from the “uncivil” rhetoric of men like Donald Trump? How about when magazines like National Review and respectable Christian spokesmen like Russell Moore and David French rebuked populists for using “divisive” language that “poisoned the public square”?

Do you recall all those arguments saying we lead more souls to Jesus by being “winsome”? How about all those Republicans in the Senate who dropped any investigation of the 2020 election fraud when a few rowdy patriots took some selfies inside the Capitol after feds urged them in and Capitol Police greeted them with smiles? Remember when the “criminal trespass” of standing outside the Capitol proved that January 6 protestors were “children of the same foul spirit” as the 9/11 hijackers? (Those were George W. Bush’s exact words.)

It all seems like 100 years ago, doesn’t it? Now we have nurses, professors, grammar school teachers, Secret Service agents, and Army colonels justifying and celebrating the brutal shooting of a peaceful American citizen for preaching the Gospel and debating abortion with students on college campuses. But like Disneyland animatronic robots with dying batteries, too many Republicans are still mumbling phrases that were scripted long ago, before the Left’s mask slipped off to show us its true face.
