The Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend, Indiana, issued an 11-page policy on sexuality and gender on September 12.
It states the truism that diocesan institutions must follow Church teaching. Therefore pronouns used in schools must be consistent with the normal sex of students. The use of "preferred pronouns" is prohibited.
Students must use uniforms, bathrooms, and athletic programs according to their "God-given sexual identity".
Public advocacy of sexual behaviour or ideologies deviating from Catholic teaching is forbidden.
"Active, hostile, and public defiance of these teachings is prohibited because it is harmful to the Catholic identity and mission of the institution," Bishop Kevin Rhoades writes.
The diocese, its institution and property will not support interventions (amputations) which harm people. Any compassionate response to people with gender dysphoria cannot involve life-altering surgery or sterilizing drugs.
