Cardinal Zen: A Division "Never before Seen in the Church" Looms

Cardinal Joseph Zen summarised the 2023-2024 Synod of Bishops in his blog OldYosef.hkdavc.com (15 February).

"They tell us that synodality is a fundamental constitutive element of the life of the Church, but at the same time they stress that synodality is what the Lord expects of us today", meaning that "it is something new".

Zen notes that there are two opposing visions of the Church:

"On the one hand, the Church is presented as founded by Jesus Christ on the apostles and their successors, with a hierarchy of ordained ministers guiding the faithful on their way to the heavenly Jerusalem. On the other hand, there is talk of an undefined synodality, a 'democracy of the baptised' ('Which baptised? Do they go to church regularly? Do they draw their faith from the Bible and their strength from the sacraments?)".

Zen warns that the second vision "can change everything: the doctrine of faith and the discipline of the moral life".

Some say that the synod has no agenda, but that insults our intelligence".

Cardinal Zen has not forgotten the famous "footnote" in Amoris Laetitia after the two synods on the family, nor the fact that the German Synodal Path has not yet been decisively rejected.

He suspects that the organisers of the synod are particularly interested in homosexuality and criticises the fact that for the first time the propaganda term "LGBTQ" appears in a Church document.

He sees the method of the synod as a manipulation to avoid a real discussion based on the Word of God. It is "all about psychology and sociology, not about faith and theology".

For Zen, the homosexual propaganda piece "Fiducia Supplicans" is a "disgusting" surprise in the middle of the two synodal sessions:

"Since the problem had already come to the fore, it was more than reasonable to wait for the next synodal meeting, after serious discussion, to resolve it. To prevent such a discussion is an act of incredible arrogance and disrespect for the Synod Fathers".

The document "threatens a serious division never before seen in the Church".

  1. Cardinal Zen may one day be canonized when we have a restoration of the Roman Catholic Church. In the meantime, the man in white has said that he may be the pope of schism. It is also said that he and his minions want a 'different' (protestant or glabalist) 'church'. They are working hard toward that goal. When will the bishops stand up to all evils coming from the direction of Rome?
