Traveling apart from the familiar and “coming home” to deeper gratitude

One can contemplate the spiritual more readily among less familiar sights. An earthly journey measuring hundreds of miles may spark spiritual contemplation transporting the soul to distances of infinitude.

The grand arc of life, perhaps oost among the thicket of quotidian duties at home, can stand out in greater relief, mirrored in the grand vistas of mountain and sky through which seeking a distant destination takes one, along the road that leads away from the place of daily tasks.

The road of discovery is always more interior than exterior. Distance from the externals of home can free the intellect and will to better roam the past in memory and to  mine it for signs of providential love and grace.

The sky reveals forms and shapes sculpted by the Master Artist. Here the head and shoulders of a figure supine floats above the hurrying traffic.

And perhaps, more easily away from the life of the home, one can “come home” interiorly to living the spiritual gifts of gratitude and joy. One can “find it here”, in a new shape for old friendship, revisited among new friends and in new places, resculpted under
the duties, large and small, that give form to a new vocation.
