“Dropping on the hand“ is what you do with M & M's, not the Body and Blood of God in the Eucharist

A blogger priest is telling people he heard that priests are being told to avoid contagion by “dropping” the Communion host onto the outstretched palms of the communicants at Mass.

I don't know where he read this but he gives no citation for it. Curious.

These are not the times for fomenting hysteria. Repeating what could be mere rumors can do that.

Anyway, the bishops are not revoking Communion on the tongue, which is a good thing since it being the case that they don't have the power to do so.

As well, dropping something on someone's palm is what you do with M & M's candy, certainly never with the Body and Blood of God which demands of us the highest reverence, love and worship. Treating the Eucharist like ordinary food does the very opposite.

This :

Is not the same thing as this:

Here is what the Church has to say about the utmost reverence due to the most august sacrament of the Lord's Body and Blood in the Holy Eucharist:

[92.] Although each of the faithful always has the right to receive Holy Communion on the tongue, at his choice, if any communicant should wish to receive the Sacrament in the hand, in areas where the Bishops’ Conference with the recognitio of the Apostolic See has given permission, the sacred host is to be administered to him or her. However, special care should be taken to ensure that the host is consumed by the communicant in the presence of the minister, so that no one goes away carrying the Eucharistic species in his hand. If there is a risk of profanation, then Holy Communion should not be given in the hand to the faithful.
