McShane Bell 1920

St Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Benedict, Maryland, has a single bell in its tower purchased from McShane Bell Foundry in Baltimore, Maryland, on Oct 29, 1920 and shipped out two days later for installation.

McShane Foundry is still in business and is the only large church bell manufacturer remaining in the United States. The founder hailed from Dundalk, Ireland, and named a neighborhood in Baltimore for his hometown after beginning the business in 1856.

St Francis de Sales' bell is automated to ring five minutes prior to all weekend Masses, to ring the Angelus daily and at three pm each Friday in observance of the Lord's Passion and death.
