“As a Catholic, my heart holds two truths at the same time today.
“Governor Kathy Hochul has said she will sign New York’s Medical Aid in Dying Act, a law that gives terminally ill patients the legal ability to end their own lives with prescribed medication.
“This news weighs heavily on my heart.
“First, I hold deep compassion for those who are suffering—the terminally ill, the frightened, the exhausted, and the families who are walking beside them.
“Serious illness strips away so much, and the fear of pain, dependence, and loss of dignity is very real.
“That suffering must never be minimized or dismissed.
“At the same time, the Catholic Church has always taught—clearly and lovingly—that human life is sacred from conception until natural death.
“No matter how many safeguards are written into law, intentionally ending one’s own life, or assisting in that act, is not morally permissible.
“Life is not ours to dispose of; it is a gift entrusted to us by God.
“The safeguards being presented—multiple physicians, waiting periods, mental health evaluations, and restrictions on witnesses—are intended to prevent abuse.
“But they do not change the moral reality of what this law permits: the intentional ending of a human life.
“Compassion does not mean eliminating the sufferer.
“It means walking with them, caring for them, and refusing to abandon them when things become difficult.
“The Catholic response to suffering has never been euthanasia.
“It has always been:
• Excellent palliative and hospice care
• Proper pain management
• Emotional, spiritual, and sacramental support
• Presence, love, and accompaniment
• A firm belief that dignity is not lost in weakness
“True dignity is not found in control over death.
“It is found in knowing that your life has meaning until your final breath, even when you are frail, dependent, or suffering.
“This is not about being harsh or lacking empathy.
“It is about believing—deeply—that no one is a burden, that suffering people deserve care, not a prescription to die, and that mercy must never contradict truth.
“I pray for the sick, for their families, for physicians and lawmakers, and for a culture that chooses care over convenience, love over fear, and hope over despair.
“Lord, have mercy on us all 🥺🙏”

BAD FAITH: ABC Co-Opts Hochul’s Catholicism for Euthanasia Story
The time has come once again for the elite legacy media to weaponize the faith of a prominent liberal politician in order to manufacture mainstreamability of some far-left policy item. This time, ABC News has found use for the Catholic faith of Gov. Kathy Hochul (D-NY)
World News Tonight closed out its A-block by centering its coverage of the imminent signing of New York’s euthanasia bill on Hochul’s Catholicism. Here is that report in its entirety, as aired on Wednesday, December 17th, 2025:
DAVID MUIR: To more news tonight. New York Governor Kathy Hochul says she will sign a right-to-die bill passed over the summer in New York. Gov. Hochul, who is Catholic, says supporting the bill is a difficult decision because of her faith. But she describes her mother's battle with ALS saying, quote: “I am all too familiar with the pain of seeing someone you love suffer and feeling powerless to stop it.” She plans to sign the bill next month.
Watching this recalls to memory the “devout Catholic” frame of Joe Biden any time he came out in support of some policy item on the left-wing pupu platter, whether it be abortion, same-sex marriage, or some other policy issue. In this case, discussion of Hochul’s faith was a larger part of the brief report than the issue at play- her signing of the bill.
Why is that? Because ABC, like the rest of the elitist media, has no use for religion unless it can be leveraged to advance the policy items of the day. Euthanasia is a pretty big-ticket item for the left, and the invocation of Hochul’s faith is designed to create a permission structure for supporting a very controversial policy that is directly at odds with Church teachings.
In broad terms, euthanasia policy is not just limited to the terminally ill. We’ve all heard about cases of individuals securing the right to commit suicide for such symptoms as depression. Reasonable individuals might ask themselves what horrors will come of this bill signing. Canada is struggling with this very issue. What was once limited to the terminally ill has crept over to the physically and/or mentally disabled, Now, there’s even talk about euthanizing babies.
This is what the left and their media would like to see operational in all 50 states. And if The People have to be routinely lied to in order to make it happen, so be it.
